Perfect: Olivia Wilde to direct biopic about Olympic gold medalist Kerri Strug

Coming off by the critically-acclaimed victory of Booksmart, Olivia Wilde has officially set her next directing project in the form of a new biographical drama movie titled Perfect which revolves around legendary gymnast Kerri Strug’s successful victory in the 1996 Olympics. The film will be penned by Ronnie Sandahl, who’s no stranger to the sports drama genre because his most recent writing credits was the 2017 biopic Borg vs. McEnroe which starred Shia LaBeouf.

“This is a picture about what real power resembles,” Wilde said in a statement (through Deadline). “It is an excruciatingly beautiful underdog story that will thrust the audience to the heart of Kerri Strug with unblinking, raw honesty. It is an epic sports movie that will deliver on all the wish-fulfilment that makes those films so thrilling to watch. At exactly the exact same time, it’s unlike any sports movie you have seen before.”

According to Strug and John P. Lopez’s book Landing On My Feet, A Diary Of Dreams, the movie will tell the true story of Kerri Strug’s inspiring Olympic journey. In 1996, she was part of the U.S. women’s gymnastic team who was famously referred to as the Magnificent Seven. Due to a bad fall from her first effort, Strug finished the last vault despite having a badly injured shoulder during the last turning against the Russian team. Due to determination and her perseverance, Team USA’s first gold medal had been earned by Strug and was hailed as a National Sports hero.

Perfect will be executive produced by Wilde, Deepak Nayer, Marisa Clifford and Sandahl with Riverstone Pictures’ Nik Bower and Pulse Films’ Thomas Benski serving as producer. Whilst the sales will be handled by FilmNation, Moss Barclay and jeremy Baxter will produce the film.

Interestingly enough, Wilde most recently starred in Clint Eastwood’s biopic play Richard Jewell which told the story of a security guard who saved thousands of lives from an exploding bomb in the 1996 Olympics. Wilde is also set to direct and star in New Line Cinema’s period thriller movie Don’t Worry Darling.

  1. Yes finally. Something other then a jab at disney. Not because I dont think they were funny but because they were starting to scare me. Lol.

  2. I never bought this theory. Is there any actual evidence for paramount having planned this? Because all I’ve heard so far is "well they couldn’t possibly have been stupid enough to greenlight the first design" and "paramount would never care enough about the fans to take that leap" (even though the movie clearly would’ve flopped if released with Sonic’s initial design).

  3. As fun as it is to think they did show on set the old design. This is kind of like faking the moon landing. Its kind of over thinking it, and asuming the worst.

  4. Usually I love your guys videos but you are so far off with this one. The redesign was 100% not a publicity stunt and the movie is pretty good.

  5. You know i love this skit in particular since i was always skeptical about the sudden fix to the movie since the new version trailer came out

  6. Everyone: Gangsta’s Paradise has nothing to do with Sonic
Me an intellectual who knows Sonic’s history: *Laughs in Pumpkin Hill*

  7. I really gotta know, are you guys just acting as a comedic conspiracy-theory sketch-artist that presents these so-beliveable-that-they-must-be-true-but-shrugged-off-becaurse-it´s-comedy conspiracy sketches as a psy-ops move from Big Cinema, or is this all just well thought-out sketches and not manipulation of the masses for the many-headed hydra of the movie industry?

  8. This is funny, but none of this is true. Paramount released Sanic (first Sonic movie design) and thought that the general public would accept and move along. Thank God everyone on the internet bullied the studio for them give us Sonic. When you look at their merch, you can this was definitely not intentionally.

Go support a studio that actually LISTENED to criticism like Sonic the hedgehog movie.

  9. -James Gunn firing
    -Spiderman rights
    -“1st” Sonic trailer

Audiences feeling they actually did something, but in the end got their money taken by movie producers who can think on the spot and claim they were in the wrong.

  10. What was spoken in this video, were my exact words describing to people around me what happened to this movie.

    Thank you.
