Neil deGrasse Tyson Stands By His Tweet About “Frozen”

America’s favorite astrophysicist, host of”Cosmos: Possible Worlds” on NatGeo, stirred up all sorts of trouble when he pointed out that the Elsa from”Frozen” isn’t drawn to normal human proportions. #Colbert #NeildeGrasseTyson #Frozen

  1. Somehow I guesses this was the guy cosmos possible world was written by I had to pick that book a million times at Baker and Taylor. I somehow looked at him and knew this is the guy.

  2. I will care what Neil deGrasse Tyson has to say about any given subject again when he apologizes for the hit job he did on Pluto. #Plutostrong #PlutosStillAPlanet

  3. Considering there is such an anti science anti fact movement having a scientist on, in my opinion is a breath of fresh air.

  4. This "space" serpent is looking extra porkly as of late…. And it’s St-St-St–Stuttering is showing he’s losing his mind, still entrancing sheep with tall tales.

  5. I don’t care if she’s normally proportioned; a girl able to freeze a dozen cubic kilometers of ice a minute, camped out somewhere in the arctic circle (hey, she can build a boss house and the cold doesn’t bother her, remember) could stave off global warming.

  6. ELBOW BUMPING is the new handshake…. and you should get used to it now that it is getting popular all over the planet (and cheaper on sanitizers).

  7. The germaphobe I am.. they should have shook hands and then used hand sanitizer . The whole thing was just wrong , now they have to re-sanitize their hands 😩

  8. Neil, Elsa is art, not science. Stay in your lane, dude.

But seriously, much of the worlds art is about copying reality.
Are you going to argue about Bugs Bunny ears next?

  9. I think animators prefer to make their characters with big eyes because it might be easier to animate emotion with bigger more exaggerated facial features, my point of view

  10. Neil measures Elsa’s eyeballs, tweets about it and everyone cares. I measure my balls and they all tell me to STFU about it.

  11. My favorite NDG quote: In the past 48hrs, the USA horrifically lost 34 people to mass shootings.

On average, across any 48hrs, we also lose…

    500 to Medical errors
    300 to the Flu
    250 to Suicide
    200 to Car Accidents
    40 to Homicide via Handgun

Often our emotions respond more to spectacle than to data.

  12. 3:35 It’s not so much that we doubt your science, Mr. Tyson, it’s that we doubt what relevance it has here. Unless there’s a psychological affectation to the art design you want to point out, I fail to see the point. Not to mention, almost no animated characters (in mainstream films) have eyes perfectly proportioned to real life, or most other body parts for that matter. Unless you’re denouncing ALL of animation, which you shouldn’t, again, I do not see the point.

  14. Any video of Neil should have an auto like … its just awesome to see this guy talk. He always makes sense. Humanity needs him

  15. I love these super fresh and insightful answers from Neil like fearing things that you don’t know about yet most. I’ve never heard anyone say this. And it’s a really important idea.

  16. What with the massive Chip on Tyson’s shoulder? He’s always trying to prove he’s the smartest guy in the room without actually answering any questions….
Stephen should ask him about the Camo uniforms adopted by the dumb money sink i.e. “Space Force” that he so righteously defends?

  17. Thank you… as an anime lover, I hate it when people go "ah, anime, that thing with the characters with big eyes?" like, yes, there are cases where the animators are a bit extreme, but in most cases, and basically all cases of anime geared towards teenagers and adults, the eyes are only slightly bigger than normal, and for good reason: it is really difficult to animate expressions on a face, you can move the mouth, but basically all micro expressions are gone. so the eyes are the only thing left to show emotion. I watch eyes when I try to figure out an emotion (ex: in Game of Thrones, season eight, when Danny tells Sam about his family, she tells him about his fathers death, and he looks sad, but when he learns about his brother’s death, that is anger in his eye. and very little people see that at first. why else would he go straight to Jon to tell him the truth). so in anime, all emotions are shown through the eyes, basically. that is why there tend to be a close up o the face or eye when something goes down. to see that reduced to "that animated show with the big eyes" is rude, especially with how anime is treated at the oscars. so thank for pointing out the hypocrisy.
