His Dark Materials Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

In the past episode of HBO’s His Dark Materials, Lyra and Roger made it to Asriel’s laboratory to mixed reactions. In His Dark Materials Season 1 Episode 8, the season finale, Asriel clarified to Lyra why he was studying Dust.

Lyra and Asriel argued. Her long and arduous journey to rescue Roger and bring Asriel the alethiometer ended in disappointment. The alethiometer was given by asriel back he had not meant for her to bring it to him. Lyra revealed that she knew who her parents were.

After a warm moment with Roger in the blanket fort they built, Asriel woke Lyra to speak with her, at Thorold suggestion. He advised her that the Magisterium interpreted Dust as original sin for centuries. As a result of this belief, they preached that Dust was evil and used this”knowledge” to subjugate people. Mrs. Coulter believed that when she cut children’s demons, she was maintaining their uncorrupted selves and saving them from sin. Asriel studied Dust in to prove the Magisterium incorrect and doing this, end their oppressive rule. Where Dust seemed to come from he would visit the other worlds.

Energy

His Dark Materials Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Thorold woke Lyra as Mrs. Coulter and the Magisterium forces were on their way. Thorold would keep Lyra safe, although Roger and asriel had gone on ahead. Asriel had mentioned that the intercision process expelled a whole lot of energy. Lyra understood that Asriel wanted to cut Salcilia from Roger and utilize the energy to open up the portal to other worlds.

Lyra refused Thorold’s help and called for Iorek. He gathered the remaining bears to accompany him. As they got closer to the mountain, fire opened on them. As Iorek attracted Lyra up the mountain, the bears countered. When they came that Iorek couldn’t cross, they said goodbyes and parted ways.

From the time Lyra arrived, it was too late to rescue Roger. Salcilia disappeared, and Roger expired. The energy knocked on Lyra out. Marisa Coulter arrived just as Asriel was going to cross through the portal. He urged her to come with him and allow him to destroy the Magisterium’s power. Because she would be abandoning Lyra she refused. Lyra hid from Marisa and moved to Roger’s body. She resolved to not let his death be in vain and walked through the portal.

BOLO

His Dark Materials Season 1 Episode 8 Recap

Boreal received the reply to the question he asked the alethiometer about what Grumman had discovered. A knife is in a tower and he would be led by his son to it. Fra Pavel believed that the message had further interpretation since Will wasn’t known about by the Magisterium. For letting Will get away the Person was yelled at by boreal. The Pale-Faced Man issued a BOLO for Will and was a detective inspector. Will avoided police officers and came across the tear that Boreal used to move between worlds.
